Grammys 2016: Anoushka Shankar loses, Asif Kapadia bags Grammy for ‘Amy’
Sitarist Anoushka Shankar and Documentary director Asif Kapadia were the two Indian names in the race to win Grammy 2016. While Amy director grabbed the brilliant gramophone for his documentary on the artist Amy Winehouse, Anoushka Shankar lost in the World music section.

Anoushka was named for her solo album “Home” which showcased the reflective and virtuosic characteristics of the Indian raga.’Home’ highlights two ragas, one of which is a making of her late father Ravi Shankar. This was her fifth nomination in the same category. Indian origin film director Asif Kapadia on Monday bagged a Grammy Award for his film “Amy”

Other Indian in the race was Jeff Bhasker who won the Grammy for producing in the non-classical and is assigned for Record of the Year ‘Uptown Funk’ by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Rudresh Mahanthappa who was named for ‘The Afro Latin Jazz Suite’ in the Best Instrumental Composition class won his first Grammy recompense beating another Indian writer David Balakrishnan in the same category.

The Best Intrumental Composition award went to “The Afro Latin Jazz Suite”, formed by Arturo O’Farrill and The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, highlighting Indian artiste Rudresh Mahanthappa.
