The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notification toward the West Bengal government taking after reports that a HIV positive kid was expelled from a school in South 24-Parganas district.

The Commission has taken suo motu comprehension of media reports that a Private based school in Bishnupur range of South 24-Parganas banned a HIV positive student and also forced his maternal grandma, a teacher in the same school, to take a ‘Purity test’ and from that point forward she has been an objective to rehashed verbal abuse.

“The content of the press report, if genuine, raise a major issue of infringement of human rights of the victim, in particular, the Right to Education of the seven-year-old kid,” the Commission observed while issuing notification to the state Chief Secretary calling for a detailed report in the matter within four weeks.

By media report, dated November 20, the seven-year-old kid after being tested HIV+, five months prior, was requested that leave the school after the confidential report about his health status was spilled and the parents of a few youngsters signed a petition demanding his ouster. Purportedly, both the parents of the child are also HIV positive.
