IRCTC Rule : Users Can Book Only 6 Online Tickets Per Month
The Railway Ministry has declared that from 15 February 2016, individual User able to book just 6 train tickets online every month on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) site. Prior to this, individual user could book a most maximum of 10 tickets for every month.

The existing rule of getting the chance to book 2 Tatkal tickets between around 10AM and 12PM in a day and 2 advance reservation period (ARP) tickets between 8AM-10AM in a day will be sat tight. The Ministry said this stride was taken after it saw that 90% of users were reserving upto 6 tickets each month, while just 10% were reserving more than 6 tickets, and which the Ministry also suspects as touts. It feels that the new govern all things considered will dishearten touts from hoarding tickets.

IRCTC executed another rule allowing only ticket booking per client in one login session somewhere around 8AM and 12PM. It said this move would decrease the number of transactions made by the agents and like, as they would need to login after every transaction. Furthermore, in April, it additionally presented 9 more rules including incapacitating the quick book option.
User Restrictions on IRCTC
The following restrictions are put in place to prevent misuse of IRCTC by touts and fake agents.
- Individuals are allowed only 2 tickets per user in a day between 8am and 10am for Advanced Reservation (ARP).
- Individuals are allowed only 2 tickets per user in a day between 10am and 12pm for Tatkal Booking.
- Quick Book Option is disabled from 8am to 12pm everyday.
- All types of ticketing agents are debarred from booking tickets during the first thirty minutes of opening of booking
- From 8am to 8.30am for General Bookings.
- From 10am to 10.30am for AC Tatkal Bookings.
- From 11am to 11.30am for Non-AC Tatkal Bookings.
- Booking is not allowed through e-wallet and cash cards from 8am to 12pm everyday.
- Only one booking in one user login session except for return/onward journey from 8am to 12pm everyday.
- Maximum of 6 tickets per user per month (effective from 15th February, 2016).

A wide range of ticketing agents (YTSK, RTSA, IRCTC operators and so on.) have been suspended from booking tickets amid the initial thirty minutes of opening of booking i.e. from 08:00 to 08:30 hours for general bookings, and from 10:00 to 10:30 hours and 11:00 to 11:30 hours for Tatkal booking in AC and non-AC classes separately.
Is It affect Genuine Users?:
As per the data available with the government, 90% of the users book only up to 6 tickets in a given month and only 10% book more than 6 tickets month. The government suspects that the 10% users might be fake agents. The government believes that this move will deter touts and help genuine users. Government assure that this newly introduced rule will not effect Genuine Users.

Expected Online ticketing revenue: In November, we reported that the 18 year old IRCTC generated Rs 20,620 crore in online ticketing with a profit after tax of Rs 130 crore from March 2014- March 2015. This was up 34% from 2014, when its revenue was Rs 15,410 crore, and a profit of Rs 72 crore.
