Late in 1816, Laennec was examining a women patient complaining of heart issues and needed to hear heart beat. He felt uncomfortable to place his ear on her chest because she was overweight. Also, this cumbersomeness helped Laennec’s to remember the time when he watched two youngsters playing with a long stick- – one scratched it with a pin while the other listened happily to the opened up sound on the other side.

Reviewing this, Laennec moved up a bit of paper and pressed it to the women’s chest. The pulsating of her heart was very audible of being heard and clear, and voila the stethoscope was invented. An advancement that would in a general sense change the discovery and diagnosis of lung and heart issues.
